Burma Superstar, Inner Richmond, SF.

Chili Lamb
Not available mild. Stir fried lamb with dried and fresh chili, onion and basil, comes medium spicy, or spicier!

I LOVED this! The lamb was super tender and the dish was packed with spice! It was definitely intense, spice wise, but I like some heat. ;)

Asian brunch at Thai Noodle Jump, Inner Richmond, SF.

Deep Fried Chicken Fried Rice?!! Whaaaat?! Out of control!

21. Tom Yum Gai Soup Hot and sour soup with chicken, shrimp, lemon grass, galangal, tomato, and mushrooms.

Mmmmmm. We ordered it with the flat vermicelli noodles.

63. Thai Hot Basil Choice of chicken, pork, or beef with bamboo strips and basil.

Yummy.

Korean style ramen with dumplings.

Shin Ramyun with egg, green onion and dumplings. I don't like my ramen with too much broth and I don't like my noodles overcooked so I rarely go out for ramen, but I enjoy making my own. :)

It was chilly and gray out so ramen sounded SO nice after a long day at work. It definitely hit the spot. :)

Super simple wasabi cilantro lime soba noodles.

I used the cilantro lime sauce I made the other day as the base for this, but mixed in sesame oil, soy sauce and wasabi.

Soba noodles, rinsed cold.

Mixed. Simple. Delicious!

Korean noodle salad with sausage.

Buckwheat noodles with a Korean dressing (that I'm also going to use to marinade some meat for Korean tacos!). Yums.

Hosting the SFS Team Outing: Three Papaya's Brunch & Screen-printing at Levi's Workshop, Mission, SF.

I hosted my first SF Station team event! It was very exciting and I want to give a special thanks to everyone who came out and made it a success!

Papaya Salad at Three Papayas. Ta-wei, Vivienne and Matty at the Three Papaya's treated us to two of these! So sweet!

One of the specials, a lotus root salad with chicken. Mmmmm.

Another one of the specials! The pig's head with Spanish rice and a fried egg. This is apparently a Filipino dish and was very interesting!

-------------
After brunch we all headed over to the Levi's Workshop for some excellent screen-printing! I surprised the crew with a special illustration made by our current SF Station Local Artist, Charmaine Olivia! Thank you, Charmaine, for the amazing illustration! And a special thanks to Levi's Workshop and Turner PR for making this all happen!!!

My bossman, Chris, workin' the screen!

Our amazing screen-printing pro, Henrik! Thank you for everything! He is holding up the first part/color of our print.

Here is a photo of my finished t-shirt! You can see the other layer here (in gray). I LOVE what Charmaine designed for us and love how it looks screen-printed! I'm so happy with how today went and can't wait to plan more events!

Jessica's Bachelorette Part 1: Vietnamese at Bodega Bistro, SF.

The bachelorette crew road tripped up to SF from LA! I was excited to meet up with them and take them around a little! They wanted Vietnamese so I thought we'd try Bodega Bistro...

Vietnamese crepe. Yummy, but not the best Vietnamese crepe I've had.

Vermicelli noodle salad with pork and imperial rolls! This is one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes. I could eat this every day! This once had great, flavorful pork and nice imperial rolls, BUT they didn't have enough imperial roll. Also, they only gave fish sauce with this. I decided to use the sauce from the Vietnamese crepe dish with this and it was lovely.

Shaking beef. Definitely not my favorite shaking beef.

The bachelorette gang! Woohoo!!

The service here was pretty slow, and the prices were a little bit high, but the dirty little secret here is to order off the lunch menu, always! It'll definitely bring down your cost. ;) I shared the above three meals with two girls. Paying for those + tax & tip was $13, and for SO much food!

The Tao experience, The Venetian, The Strip, Las Vegas.

Taaaaaaao! Gosh, I had heard SO much about this place from SO many different people that I immediately put it on my "must" list!

Pretty.. I guess on the weekends they have models in these baths as you walk into Tao.

The Tao Buddha.

It's a pretty spot. I like what they've done with the decor.. not overdone, but definitely a nice mix.

I liked the raised silverware holder.

Crispy Coconut Shrimp with Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce.

We had to ask for more peanut sauce, but this was pretty good. Not the best coconut shrimp I've ever had, but solid. The slaw underneath, with the peanut sauce, was SO yummy.

Top: Satay of Chilean Sea Bass with Wok Roasted Asparagus.
Bottom: Sophisticated Udon Noodles with Mixed Vegetables.

The Sea Bass was like butter that melted in your mouth! The asparagus, too--I've never had asparagus that was so soft! They were both very nice. The noodles were good, too, but were the most generic tasting with the sauce.

Chocolate fortune cookie! With clever little fortunes! Fortune cookies aren't really my thing, but these were fun.

Sooooo Tao! It was a fun spot and I'm glad I went. I would definitely go again, too! :) It's a bit chainy, but prices weren't outrageous and they have a huge menu so that's nice.

Pho Au Sen, Oakland, CA.

My amazing vermicelli noodles with imperial rolls! This is my favorite Vietnamese dish and the one here was HUGE! The biggest portion I think I've ever been served, but the sauce wasn't the best I've had. The rolls were a generous portion and very tasty though. I was super happy with this dish and had leftovers--yay!

Meatball pho. Again, very generous with the meat! The broth here is beef based and they used thinner noodles for their pho.

Greasy Chinese Vietnamese at Tu Lan, SoMa, SF.

Photo from ji k on Yelp.

What we ordered:
#20. Mi Xao Don - Shrimp, Pork, Chicken
#39. Veg. & Crispy Noodle, Bo Luc Lac - Beef Cubes VN Style.

I didn't get a shot of the food because I didn't have my camera, but this place is a gem!! A gem, I say!!! Haha. It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but I love it so.

#39. Oh my goodness!! It was AMAZING. I'm craving it right now as I write this. Haha. It's not really like shaking beef because it has this sauce, but the sauce is oh so good!

Eggplant, chicken and vegetable fried rice.

This was pretty great. I used my special Asian sauce with rice, egg, eggplant, chicken, baby corn, broccoli, green beans, black pepper. This was great! :)

Whenever I make fried rice I cook rice in my rice maker like normal. Then I cook the egg first and then set it aside. Then anything else that needs to be cooked separately like chicken and eggplant. Next, everything else. Then I mix in the rice and sauce and add the cooked egg last.

Cold somen noodles in a special Asian sauce, with shrimp.

Special Asian sauce! Haha. Vinegar, Rice vinegar, olive oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, wasabi, garlic, red onion, cilantro, Korean seasoning packet.

I cooked the shrimp in this sauce and then let it cool.

I cooked the somen noodles quickly, rinsed them in cold water and then mixed them with the sauce. I topped them with shrimp and cilantro. Very tasty!

Thai style fried rice with spicy sausage.

I'm going to mix in the recipe with the photos.. Approximate ingredient measurements are below.

1. Cook sausage, set aside.

2. Scramble egg in fry pan, use spatula to chop.

3. Add 2 cups of cooked rice, sausage, the above Korean spice/veggie packet, fish sauce, olive oil, sesame oil and soy sauce.

4. Use spatula to mix everything and keep the rice moving so it doesn't stick to the pan.

5. Add cilantro and mix in.

6. Serve! :)

This is definitely one of the best fried rices I've ever made. I'm in love!

Ingredients*:
  • 2 cups rice, cooked
  • 2 eggs, scrambled
  • 2 hot link sausages (You can really use any meat, but the spice here adds to the Thai style of this dish and sausage is nice because it's not messy. I slice and then quarter mine.)
  • 1 packet Korean or Japanese dried veggie/spice mix
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
*I don't measure while I cook so these measurements are an approximation. Be careful with soy sauce because it can make dishes very salty so keep using small amounts and tasting to your liking. Fish sauce is also pretty strong, but balances nicely once you have added the other sauces--it shouldn't smell like fish sauce in the end! :)

Veggies, eggplant and chicken stir-fry with a spicy orange sauce.

Frooooozen veggies! I have mixed feelings on frozen veggies, but it's been hard being on foot and picking up fresh groceries all the time! I decided to give this batch a try.

With some saved eggplant and chicken from yesterday, all with a spicy orange sauce.

Awesome Vietnamese from Vietnam Too, Tenderloin, SF.

My classic--vermicelli noodles with imperial rolls. The imperial rolls here were huge! They were awesome, but sliced too thickly! The noodles were cooked perfectly, the sauce was just right and I was very happy with this meal! :) My only other complaint though would be that there was no cilantro!!?? I was shocked and I loooove cilantro so I was pretty disappointed by that. Strange for a Vietnamese place, but maybe they ran out?? Hmm..

The special make-your-own wrap meal. This was very good and came with nice wrap paper, tons of fresh veggies and a three different sauces! Again though--no cilantro to be found! :(

This is definitely one of the best Vietnamese meals I've had in SF.

Lunch at Sai Jai Thai, Tenderloin, SF.

The better Pork Shoulder (left) and Phad Thai.

This pork shoulder was so much better than this one. The Phad Thai was red, which means I didn't like it because it was tomato based and not authentic! Sad. My friend Lena though, who is Thai, really likes this place--they apparently make many authentic dishes, some that are very hard to find at other restaurants!

Teriyaki chicken stir-fry with veggies, pineapple and cashews.

So I only had a small pot, so I did the veggies separately.. haha. Red onions, obviously. :)

Red, green, yellow bell peppers!

Celery.

Add teriyaki sauce, the rest of my rotisserie chicken (Gosh, I got good use out of that!), pineapple chunks, and cashews.

Finished. There was SO much of this--I filled two things of tupperware to freeze and then one to eat with rice later. :)

I'm a BIG fan of cooking and freezing! Also, if you notice, I go grocery shopping and get some basic veggies, etc, and use them in several different ways. It keeps costs down and challenges you to get creative!

Here's how I used my last groceries:
  • Bell peppers: BBQ chicken sandwich, Teriyaki stir-fry
  • Rotisserie chicken: Curry chicken salad, Sandwich, Teriyaki stir-fry
  • Pineapple: Carrot cake cupcakes, Teriyaki stir-fry
  • Celery: Curry chicken salad, Teriyaki stir-fry
  • Red onion: BBQ chicken sandwich, Teriyaki stir-fry
  • Cashews: Curry chicken salad, Teriyaki stir-fry

Korean American Thanksgiving Feast 2009, S. Hill, Spokane.

It all started with our hostess (in purple) and a bunch of empty serving platters. Asian Thanksgivings are always an interesting mix of Asian and American food. :)

And then we arranged this appetizer tier to nibble on while everything else finished cooking. The mini jalapeno-cheddar cornbread muffins on the bottom are mine!

Getting the ham ready for the final bake!

My parent's seafood dish.

String bean casserol.

Asian fish dish.

Korean japchae. My mother's friend, who I hadn't seen in about 5 years made this and made it vegetarian because she remembered that I was! Aw, bless her! But I had to break it to her that I haven't been a vegetarian in almost 3 years now!

Korean vegetable and egg pancakes.

A spicy Korean chicken and potato dish.

Bacon wrapped asparagus!

Corn bread stuffing.

The ham, was our turkey this year! First Thanksgiving without a turkey, but I don't love turkey so it was okay. :)

Baked salmon with lemon, capers and a cream sauce. This was my favorite part of the meal!

The whole spread.

I'm so thankful for good eats. ;)
